1. 13 July 1944: Ernő Rubik is born

   Born in Budapest, Hungary.

2. 1974: The Magic Cube

   Rubik builds the first working prototype of the Cube in Budapest.

3. 1980: Rubik's Cube goes worldwide

   The Cube is licensed to an international toy company and sold around the world under the name Rubik's Cube.

4. 5 June 1982: First World Championship

   The first Rubik's Cube world championship is held in Budapest. The winner is Minh Thai of the United States, with a time of 22.95 seconds.

5. 2010: God's Number

   Researchers prove that every position of the 3×3 Cube can be solved in 20 moves or fewer.

The Cube has since sold in the hundreds of millions, making it one of the best-selling toys of all time.
